All good things come to a premature end
Despite our best laid plans, one thing we could never predict at the outset of our big adventure was a global pandemic. From the blissful ignorance of being disconnected from the world in remote Bolivia during mid March to days later a fast approaching worldwide lockdown, our trip sadly quickly took on a different perspective. After exploring Asia, holidays in Australia and criss crossing Chile and Argentina, our trip came to a premature end 6 months earlier than expected shortly after arrival in Mexico.
On 27th March we returned to live in the UK for the first time in almost 7 years. The UK was on lockdown and we returned with no home, no job and no food. But we had our health and 6 months of amazing experiences to be thankful for. That said 6 months of lost travel and lockdown with 3 kids certainly weighed on the downside.

We’ve now been in the UK for 3 months living in an Airbnb on the edge of the Peak District. There are certainly worse places to be isolated. Unlike many families we had a 6 month head start accepting we were a bit useless at homeschooling (even when one of us a trained teacher). We’ve continued to enjoy our time together as a family, experienced the North in surprisingly good weather and seen at a distance more of our extended family than we ever expected.
July marks a return to normality with a new job starting at Trainline and the prospect of moving into a new house in St Albans. Continue to keep an eye out for updates to the blog, we’ve just posted about our time in Vietnam, the Chilean Lake District, Torres Del Paine and the Argentinian side of Patagonia. Our adventures from the following will be coming soon…
- Cosmopolitan Buenos Aires
- Iguazu Falls…simply wow!
- Surviving on wine in Mendoza
- A once in a life time experience on Easter Island
- Celebrating a birthday in Chile’s Elqui Valley
- The out-of-this-world landscape of Atacama
- Our off-road adventure to Bolivia’s salt flats
- An all too brief glimpse of Mexico
